Hosting a Display of The AIDS Memorial Quilt

The AIDS Memorial Quilt offers an unique opportunity to educate people about HIV/AIDS and infection prevention, to remember those who have died, and to comfort the grieving and help them heal.

By showing the humanity behind the statistics, The Quilt encourages compassion and inspires personal involvement in combating the AIDS epidemic.

A display of The Quilt is one of the most powerful tools available to your community in the fight against AIDS, and any government agency or incorporated organization, non-profit or not, is eligible to host a display. That includes schools, churches, colleges or universities, AIDS Service Organizations, county health departments, banks- you name it!

Whatever kind of organization you might represent, the first step towards hosting a display is the Display Application...

Display Programs

Our Display Coordination staff will work with you to bring The AIDS Memorial Quilt to your school, work place or other community venue through one of our several display programs:
Academic Displays
Displays of The AIDS Memorial Quilt on college and university campuses, either as a part of a health awareness week or as an individual exhibit, offer a valuable and unique opportunity to communicate the message that preventing HIV infection is the key to stopping AIDS.
Community-Based Displays
A Community-Based display enhances local HIV and AIDS education efforts in your local area, provides a powerful vehicle for remembrance of those your community has lost, and re-energizes and inspires people to take new action in the fight against AIDS and new HIV infections- especially when coupled with panel making workshops leading up to the display.
Communities of Faith Display Initiative
Recognizing the central role faith-based institutions play in many individuals’ lives and communities, The NAMES Project regularly partners with leadership in faith-based institutions to coordinate displays of sections of The Quilt in a variety of settings. Collaborations with the faith community reach audiences young and old, helping to facilitate informed dialogue about AIDS as well as healing from the human losses of the epidemic.
Chapter Displays
Members of the NAMES Project chapter program conduct public displays of the AIDS Memorial Quilt in community venues all across the country all year long, utilizing Quilt they host locally for periods of one to six months. If you are in a Chapter service area, they will be more than happy to assist you. Visit our directory page to find a NAMES Project Chapter near you.
